Frequently Asked Questions and Help for Owlbum
Getting Started
The first thing to do is to enrol yourself in the subjects you are currently studying at school. Then assign the grade to these subjects from your most recent report card. If you haven’t received a report card yet then you can leave the Grade section blank. Once you receive marks for any assessments during the term you can input these as marks.
FAQ
What is the difference between marks and grades?
Grades are results from report cards or end of term or semester reports. Generally they represent a number of assessments.
Marks are results from individual assessment pieces. When you input a mark you can choose the assessment type.
How do I enrol in my subjects?
In Owlbum enrolment means the subjects you are currently studying in school.
What if my subject doesn’t show?
If your subject isn’t in the options and there are no similar ones then email us and we will endeavour to create it.
How do I add friends?
Click on friends in the menu bar and type in their name in the search. Remember to only accept friend requests from people you know.
How does the ranking work?
Students are ranked in individual subject categories and with a total of all their subjects.
Our specially designed algorithm assigns a score based on your results. Grades have a life span of 12 weeks and Marks have a life span of 3 weeks. So it is important to input new results as you receive them. Although the result doesn’t contribute to your rankings after the lifespan expires it is still stored in the grade and mark book for future reference.
What are the subject categories?
Subjects are classified into 5 domains or categories:
- Stem
- Expressive Art, design and music
- Humanity and its relationships
- Languages and Communication
- Other (this includes sports and general education)
